Isla Mujeres
Isla Mujeres, the island of women, sanctuary of the goddess Ixchel, goddess of the moon, fertility, medicine and happiness, dates back over 1500 years. Also home to the ancient Mayan civilization, as they came here to havest salt from the lagoons, is a relaxing ferry ride across the bay from Cancun.
A visit to Isla Mujeres, is like turning back time at least fifty years. The small and diverse island holds visual contrast from, end to end. On the north beach, you will walk along turquoise-blue shoreline on soft white sand beaches with a view of the Caribbean sea. Yet, just a short distance to the south, a dramatic shift awaits with coral cliffs over the Atlantic Ocean and, a rare opportunity to view the ancient Mayan ruins. In the heart of town, experience true local flavors in dining, shopping and, quite often, street entertainment!
Fun on land or fun in the water, there is much to explore on Isla Mujeres. Snorkle, scuba or visit the dolphins, you can enjoy the pristine waters in multiple ways. On foot, golf cart or scooter, there is much to explore by land. Venture to La Tortuga for the turtles, Punta Sur for the temples, or bungee jumping at Garrafon Park, you'll fill days with all there is to offer here. Our favorite is yoga in the tree house and relaxing on the beach by Buhos.
